Jiale Liu is an architectural and spatial designer from China. He graduated from the Department of Architecture at Shih Chien University in Taiwan and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Interior Design at the Royal College of Art. His research focuses on adaptive reuse, spatial narrative, and perceptual strategies, specializing in constructive interventions that provoke new understandings and experiences of existing spaces.
His project transforms the office building at 15 Westferry Circus in Canary Wharf into a public sports complex. Inspired by the “After Hours” aesthetic, it explores architecture’s potential beyond working hours. By inverting the original structure and adding a vertical park and modular spaces, he creates a layered environment integrating sports, therapy, and community interaction. The project uses visual intervention and structural changes to engage with themes of the body, daily life, and public space, revealing new possibilities in the building’s off-duty state.
