Zhuoya Guo graduated from the University of Melbourne with a degree in Architecture and pursued a Master’s in Interior Design at the RCA. Her design philosophy emphasizes the symbiosis between architecture and nature, advocating a light and humble approach that integrates with the environment rather than dominating it. By blurring the boundaries between natural and artificial, embracing diverse cultures and values, she explores inclusive and open spatial expressions redefining the social meaning of architecture and environment. She also places great importance on human-centered design, incorporating emotion, behavior, and dignity to create spaces both sensorially rich and socially responsible.
This project employs repetitive elements to create a dynamic façade that responds to cultural commercialization, while providing workers with an open platform to express their rights. The design constructs an interactive wall using on-site materials, integrating daily updated questions with a rotating mechanism of dual-colored bricks, making individual attitudes visible and fostering management and public awareness and response to workers’ voices. The spatial layout respects the original structure, transcends traditional boundaries, and flexibly reconfigures spatial forms. Seasonal variations of light and shadow flow through the space, serving as an intangible medium shaping perception and emotional experience. The project seeks a balance between technology and emotion, exploring how space can awaken users’ inherent dignity and sense of belonging.
