Community Thread

Jianan Wang is a spatial designer from China. He is dedicated to conveying emotion and narrative through space, creating deeper interactions between people and their environment. He believes that architecture and design are not only bridges connecting the past, present, and future, but also cultural vessels that carry dreams, memories, and desires.

In his graduation project Community Thread, he repurposed discarded fast fashion garments and used sewing as an architectural language, stitching these materials into textile structures to create movable spatial components—fabric doors, fabric walls, and fabric curtains.

This act is both material and metaphorical:
It revives the forgotten labor behind architecture and stitches together the fractured connections within our communities.

“Fabric is not just a material; it is a vessel.
Sewing is not just a technique; it is an emotion.”

Community Thread is a gentle yet powerful line that weaves together space, people, and memory. Through this approach, he strives to make design a meaningful medium for reflecting on urgent social and cultural issues.
